At Yowell, we believe that learning is a lifelong journey, and our dedicated educators exemplify that commitment. This summer, three of our very own—Miss Mahokey, Miss Nagel, and Miss Yelanich—continued to advance their expertise. Miss Nagel earned her Associate's Degree in Arts and Sciences in Education, while Miss Mahokey completed her Master's Degree in Curriculum and Instruction with a focus on Special Education and an endorsement from UVA. Miss Yelanich achieved an Educational Specialist Degree from William & Mary. We are incredibly fortunate to have such accomplished educators as part of our Yowell family!

Mrs. Murdock's third graders reviewed for their economics assessment today in small groups. If their group answered a question correctly, they were able to roll a set of double dice, and code one of Mrs. Dugger's new robots to move that many spaces around the track. They had to make sure the robot turned when he was supposed to and moved forward just enough spaces to not go off the track. What a fun way to review!

Although they will be eager to return to the outdoors, they are having an incredible time enjoying each other's company inside.

Meet our Yowell Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs)-Dr. Capellini and Ms. Musso (soon to be Mrs. Ruffner after October 5th!) Our SLPs work with students (ages 2-post high) with difficulties in speaking due to articulation (speech sounds), language (how they use and understand their language), pragmatics (social use of language), fluency (stuttering), and voice (tone, pitch, and volume of your voice) that negatively impact a child’s ability to communicate in the school setting. Nearly 1 in 12 U.S. children ages 3-17 have a disorder related to speech and language. Dr. Capellini and Ms. Musso are currently screening all new to county students (PreK, K, and transfer students) for hearing, speech, language, fluency, and voice disorders. If you have a concern about your child, please reach out to the school (540-825-9484) and ask to speak to Cara Capellini.

Mrs. Murdock's 5th graders are simulating the process of developing a cutting edge healthy snack. First, they discussed how important it is to create a product that will appeal to many people. After considering a handful of ideas, the agencies decide on a snack that
will surely earn them lots of money! Students also considered how color psychology impacts the buyer when planning their ad campaigns. In October, we'll find out which group's product and marketing earn them the most "money."
