What does a school counselor do:


Supports your child to promote success in academics, social/personal growth, and career exploration as a foundation for future success.

Classroom guidance lessons to teach character education to all grades in accordance with the Standards for School Counseling Programs in Virginia Public Schools


  • Small group guidance to address additional academic or personal needs (topics such as: study skills, changing families, grief/loss, anger management, friendship building, or self-esteem).
  • Individual counseling to address needed areas of concern (referrals can be made by parents, teachers, administrators or the students themselves).
  • Consultation with parents about academic or personal/social concerns. School counselors also consult with teachers and administrators about how to help students achieve success. Community referrals are available upon request.
